何为国际学校？-What does international school means?
The term "international school" has rapidly become a hot search term in China in the past 5-10 years. China's reform and opening up has led to the emergence of new terms, and international education is one of them. The process of urbanization has led to an increase in the demand for middle and high-end education and overseas education. Of course, the reasons for this are very complicated, not only because of economic development, but also because of the many drawbacks and limitations of domestic education. What does an international school look like in the eyes of many parents? What kind of school can be a real or genuine international school? This is something for every parent to ponder.
Some people say that international education is to use all English, some people say that foreign teachers are necessary, and some people say that international education concepts are required. Everyone's definition of international school is different. As a newcomer to the international education industry, I can give you a summary. According to the first paper of the PGCE course, what do you think of an international school? In fact, according to my understanding of international education, it can be divided into three parts (according to the degree of importance): educational philosophy, school culture, and curriculum system.
The most basic soul of a school is its educational philosophy, which includes what kind of people the school wants to cultivate? How to achieve whole-person education? Among them, we have often mentioned in public schools to cultivate students of moral, intellectual, physical, and artistic labor, which is also one of the school's concepts.
During the learning process of PECE, many papers of educators mentioned that international schools need to cultivate international vision, international thinking and international communication skills. Some parents think that pure English education is internationalization. This concept is exactly wrong. English is only a tool for communication. The real internationalization in terms of thinking and way of thinking is the real internationalization. It is a pity that some domestic International schools do not have such awareness (here does not mean to judge any school is good or bad, each school has its own philosophy and characteristics). The formation of the concept of internationalization I personally think is closely related to the educational background and experience of the founders. The more a school has a correct concept of international education, the founders must have received Western higher education, and their personal experiences are also very diverse. . On the other hand, if it is a purely public birth or a founder who still retains the ideas of the 1950s and 1960s, this school is either a school with exams and quizzes, or a school without an international education concept, or even a school with no education concept at all. 's school.
The educational concept has nothing to do with the number of students from famous schools. Not everyone is suitable for Oxbridge. The concept of a truly valuable international education is to cultivate talents with self-confidence, ideas, knowledge and international vision, not to enter How much to judge a school is good or bad.
If the educational philosophy is the soul of a school, the school culture is the embodiment of the spirit. Many international schools overseas emphasize Positive Education. I have always believed that the attitude of positive education and the premise of school culture are people-oriented and mutual respect. If the teachers are respected, then the teachers in this school will be very responsible; if the students are respected, then the enthusiasm of the students in the school will be stimulated. At this time, teachers and students will definitely be proud of this school, and the school will also be proud of students and teachers. Only under this premise can positive education be brought into play.
An international school culture should be based on the inclusion of cultures of all countries. No matter the skin color, nationality, religion and customs of teachers and students, they should be understood and respected. In terms of academics, we should accept the viewpoints and opinions from different students and teachers. No matter whether they are correct or not, we should maintain a school culture of free thought. Only such a school culture will cause people to think more deeply.
A successful international school should be after graduation, all students will miss the school's culture and educational philosophy, should be proud of their alma mater, rather than want to escape as soon as possible. School culture is the blood of a school and will always be with every student.
In the field of international education, there are currently three main courses: A-level, AP and IBDP. From my point of view, the IBDP course is more suitable for whole-person education. Of course, A-level is also a leader in international courses, but in China, the taste has changed, and A-level is directly and rudely regarded as the model of China's college entrance examination. Therefore, in China, I define the A-level curriculum as "the localized college entrance examination of the British curriculum". In fact, some of the good educational concepts of foreign high schools have all changed their taste in China, and they have become international courses based on achievement. The tuition fee of more than 100,000 may only be exchanged for endless exams. What is the value of such education?
The implementation of a successful international curriculum should be based on English. The curriculum system must be integrated with the school culture and educational philosophy. The cultivation of multicultural and international thinking is not something that can be successfully acquired by just taking an international curriculum.
